CollegeNET Partners with China Education Association for International Exchange to Provide New Video Interview Technology for U.S. College Admissions

Relationship Will Improve the Application Experience for Chinese Students Hoping to Study Abroad and Help U.S. Institutions Make Informed Admissions Decisions

Portland, Ore., July 29, 2013

CollegeNET, Inc., a leading provider of Web-based on-demand technologies for higher education, today announced an agreement with China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), to begin offering CollegeNET's Video Interview services to Chinese students applying to U.S. colleges and universities. Deputy Secretary General of CEAIE Zong Wa and CollegeNET President and CEO Jim Wolfston signed the agreement during Mr. Zong's visit to Portland, Ore. for CollegeNET's annual User Conference last week.

Video Interview allows institutions to provide any applicant the opportunity to respond to recorded interview questions via webcam, thereby saving admissions offices the time and expense of scheduling and conducting in-person interviews, as well as providing all candidates equal opportunity to participate in an interview.

Chinese students applying to U.S. colleges and universities will soon be able to go to one of the CEAIE test facilities located throughout China to record an interview as part of their application for admission. U.S. institutions will have the opportunity to frame their interviews to their specifications by providing preselected questions for the students to answer. CEAIE will verify the identity and credentials of each applicant and provide a secure interview setting with all the necessary computer equipment.

Eliminating the travel time and cost associated with in-person interviews is particularly advantageous to Chinese students hoping to gain admission to a U.S. institution. The Video Interview service is also valuable to American college admissions offices in determining a Chinese student’s language skills and readiness to adapt to U.S. academic life and culture. This capability is targeted at addressing institutional calls for more effective tools for verifying international applicants’ qualifications and improving the success rates for these students once they begin their U.S. academic studies.

"CollegeNET’s SaaS services for college admissions play a role in advancing international education and cultural understanding," said Mr. Wolfston. "We look forward to working with CEAIE to help U.S. schools in their international recruiting efforts and in promoting academic success for their students."

CollegeNET's Video Interview service is the latest addition to the company's Intelligent Connections® SaaS services for online college admission application processing and review. The company's fully hosted services provide 1,300 institutions a complete range of admissions services, including ApplyWeb® online application submission and processing, Admit online application evaluation and decision, and Prospect CRM automated prospect recruiting and communication management systems, in addition to course and event scheduling services.

According to the agreement, the partnership's mission is to "provide scalable, convenient and trusted interviewing capabilities between students in China and colleges and universities in the United States; provide trust and belief in Chinese students' identity within university online admission and interviewing processes; provide scalable, innovative methods of video interviewing which integrate with existing university systems and admission workflows."

With this agreement CollegeNET broadens the scope of its efforts to facilitate international recruitment for U.S. institutions and the admissions application process for Chinese students. The company also works in conjunction with Tencent/QQ, China's largest social network, to advance the orientation and preparation of Chinese students planning to study in the U.S., through the online video service USAcademy®, the USCAT® (U.S. Cultural Assessment Test), and the QQ CollegeNET microblog, which has close to 30,000 users throughout China and 21 countries throughout the world.

"We consider our partnership with CollegeNET a valuable opportunity to help all Chinese students who are prepared for study in the United States to have that important cultural experience," said Mr. Zong at CollegeNET's User Conference in Portland, Ore. last week. "CEAIE looks forward to working with CollegeNET to help promote international education and understanding among our future cultural, political and business leaders."
