GLORYDRAKE's StandOut® Profile
I am a "Navy Brat." I was born in Virginia and have lived in Georgia; Idaho; Japan; Puerto Rico; California; Hawaii; and back to the State of my birth. I began singing as an actor for ARIEL Theatrical, Inc., a children’s theater, in Salinas while living in Seaside, California. I was blessed that my mother was the Music Director for the theater and was willing to forego being paid in lieu of my tuition. I participated in a number of productions and improved my musical acumen by taking the summer classes my mother taught.
Since I turned 12, my mother has required that I actively contribute in every Ward Choir in every Ward I have been a member of. She has also required that I either solo or be part of a small group for a good number of Sacrament Meetings. I knew that I needed to have formal instruction for admittance into a college music program so I tried out and was accepted as a member of the Manchester Madrigals. My teacher was shocked that I had never had formal instruction. She told my mother that she laments the fact that I am now a senior and she only has this year with me. She was so impressed with my knowledge and ability that within the first nine weeks of school, she made an unprecedented decision. She invited me to be a member of Touch of Swing. This is an advanced choir which incorporates dancing with singing.
I am grateful for the opportunities to express my passion for music and anticipate many more occasions to communicate my abiding love for good music at Southern Virginia University.
