mimotrca's StandOut® Profile

In 2003 my parents and I left our lives in England behind and moved to America. Without that leap of faith, I would assuredly be unable to pursue further education for myself, and my dreams would be impossible to achieve.
The decision to move away from England was a complex one, but there were many reasons for doing so. My dad’s job was very unstable, and most of the time, he didn’t live at home with us. After he lost his job in 2002, the cost of living reduced us to living in a friend’s backyard in a camper. This made any chances of higher education after high school extremely slim; the decision was made that we would try to move to another country where I would have a chance of a good life, a better education, and the ability to afford a home for myself. Leaving England behind was one of the hardest decisions my parents have ever made, but it was worth it; we hold no regrets.
The life of an immigrant has been very difficult as we run into red tape wherever we go. Despite this, I have always seen a future for myself, and I have worked for it with every breath I take. Since birth, my parents have instilled in me that education is a necessity if I wish to succeed in life. For them, education was hard to come by in England, and they did not want me to be in the same predicament. Every decision they made throughout my life has been for the benefit of my education. No two people have ever sacrificed as much for me as they have, and I will make them proud. I am here, seven years after the move to America, applying for some of the best universities in the South, and my hopes and dreams have become a reality.
Throughout high school, I have had my future plans in mind with every test, homework assignment, and project. My future is very important as earning a four-year degree is top on my list of priorities. My goal is to major in pre-med and go to medical school where I can specialize in children’s illnesses. Children are a huge passion of mine, and I hope that my thirst for knowledge will benefit them and save many lives. If I can only save one life, all of my years of studying and effort will be worth it.
Sometime throughout my education, I hope to receive my Green Card so that I can continue living in America. I want to obtain a job that will help me pay for my education and keep me from relying heavily on my parents.
